A beginners guide to how to make a glossy orb - the easy way.

Step 1

First off, make a new document 540 by 440 pixels. Fill the background with a dark radial gradient. You can do this by setting your foreground colour to #323232 and your background colour to #111111 and left clicking in the top left quarter and then dragging your mouse down to the bottom right corner and releasing.

Step 2

Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + Alt + N) and using the Elliptical Marquee Tool make a selection of 300 by 300 pixels (in the middle of the document).

Step 3

Now using the radial gradient tool again, make a gradient from #ea7d39 at the top left to #be510e at the bottom right of the selection.
